Apart from F1 I occasionally catch snipets of racing from LMS, Moto GP, DTM and NASCAR [in order of frequency] So here is a collection of my favorite moments [from the races I've watched] outside of F1
Best Overtake: Anthony Davidson @ 24 Hours of Le Mans [LMP1 Class]
The typical story of Le Mans for the past 3 races was the Peugeots were fast but the Audi more reliable. Around this point, Anthony Davidson [former F1 driver and quite a fast person] was driving the last Peugeot 908 HDi FAP [as the rest of them spontaneously combusted] his job was to push the car as hard as possible to pass the Audis and bring back the Le Mans crown to the French constructor, this is just one of his many daring maneuvers to take back the crown.
Crash of the Year: Luke Hines @ Mosport [ALMS GTC Class]
The impact into the gaurdrail from this crash completely destroyed it leading the race to be red flagged due to safety concerns. Just watch it for yourself
Golden Cock: Anthony Davidson
As mentioned before, Anthony Davidson was on a charge to chase down the Audis, his commitment to the race line lead to the loss of Corvette's hope for winning their debut in the GT2 class. The accident was bad enough but the interview made it worse.
Rivalry of the year: The entire GT2 field
ALMS is a wonderful little racing series packed with excitement stemming from 4 main classes, like with all endurance racing, the typical end result is a winner some lap or 2 ahead of 2nd place, not in the GT2 class. With competition coming from the Flying Lizard Porsche, the Risi Competizione Ferrari F430, the Rahal Letterman M3 and the Pratt & Miller Corvette. What was once a toss up between which Porsche shall win, is now a 4 way dog fight at each track. Although the BMWs took the constructor title by one point from the Lizards, Flying Lizard took the driver's title and each of the 4 won at least one race of the season. I just can't wait till the 2011 24hrs of Le Mans. So unfortunately although the racing was close, I don't have any footage of some of the close racing [including some footage of all four of them trailing each other at Mosport] but I do have clips from what makes GT2 so awesome from previous seasons.
Catastropic Failure: Peugeot 908 HDi FAP @ Le Mans
As mentioned before the Peugeots at Le Mans just exploded one by one, the last Peugeot [a 2009 spec car] was the last hope for Peugeot to gain some glory, but with just 1 hour and 15 mins to go the inevitable happened.
Moment of the Year: Top Gear Season 15 Episode 5
The greatest episode of Top Gear aired this year featuring their biggest stars ever [Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz], the most beautiful race they ever had [some swedish youths vs a VW Touareg], the fastest car ever [the Bugatti Veyron SS] and a tribute to the greatest F1 driver ever [Ayrton Senna]. Watch here.
Lolz Moment: Potholes @ Daytona 500
So, I watched my first ever NASCAR race this year only to watch it get delayed because of potholes on the track. As the great Dale Jr said "Just put a cone on it and lets go back to racing"
Race of the Year: 24 Hrs of Le Mans
Epic race was epic, the only way to watch it is to watch it next year. There are no reruns or highlights of this race [in English at least], if you want a torrent, good luck.
Rookie of the Year: Kimi Raikkonen
The man with absolutely nothing to say made his full season debut in the WRC for the Citroen Junior team. Despite a couple crashes and only one stage win, Raikkonnen managed to win the non WRC Rallye Vosgien which lead to some promise for next season. I still want to see if he is able knock Loeb off of his crown in a works Citroen. Will that happen however? The world may never know.
Driver of the Year: Valentino Rossi
The biggest news for Rossi this year was a switch to Ducati for 2011, this alone is good news for Rossi, but the fact he was able to pull off a third place in the driver's championship season is the highlight for me. Despite missing out 3 races from an injury attained in practice, Rossi showed his dominance by managing to hold on and a couple more races before the season was over.
